Unconnected Sockets Not Implemented

ccie-sec January 5th, 2009

Before the holidays began, I was tasked with implementing ‘Secure Desktop Manager’ on all of the client’s firewalls to prepare for an upcoming security audit.  The prelogin policies worked great for various versions of Linux and ran fine on MAC OSX, but intermittently worked for Windows XP and Vista.  I don’t normally like using ASDM for certain tasks, but since I’ve been studying for the lab, I’ve had to familiarize myself with using it.  Upon investigating, I encountered the following error message when attempting to use ASDM:

I Googled and checked the Bug Toolkit for the original error message, but didn’t find any valid solutions on fixing the problem.  I ended up having to step through the change management logs to recall what may have changed before the break.  The only software change made on the server was updating Java.  I decided to remove ‘Java 6 Update 11′ from the server to rule it out immediately.  Since I found older instances of Java were still installed, I wasn’t overly concerned with breaking anything else on the machine.

As soon as I removed the updated version, ASDM started working again.
